ABOUT THE ARTIST

ARTIST + PORTRAITURE + CHARCOAL
SOUTH WEST, UK
Working in charcoal feels like channelling something beyond myself. There's a meditative quality to it—the way shadow and light can capture not just what an animal looks like, but who they are, what they carry, the voices they cannot speak. People often ask, "How did you create that?" Honestly, I don't always know. I enter a creative trance where something bigger than me takes over. I'm searching for soul, spirit, that indefinable energy that makes each creature unique.

I think about our ancestors constantly—those first humans drawing on cave walls with charcoal from fire pits, marking what plants are edible, mapping hunting grounds, telling stories. That primal creative impulse is what I'm chasing. Charcoal connects us to something ancient. I believe our ancestors also explored plant medicines, and I've followed that path—exploring consciousness through psychedelics and plant medicines. Those journeys fundamentally shaped both my art and my understanding of reality, cracking open profound truths: that there's deep meaning beneath the surface, that animals carry wisdom we've forgotten, that we're all far more connected than we realize.
My work explores what matters most: connection, gratitude, forgiveness, presence. As a mother of two, I've learned we're not here to be selfish. We're here to love, learn, and teach. I ask myself constantly: How can I be a good ancestor? How can I see other perspectives? How can I be better?
I'm fascinated by philosophy and science, endlessly curious about the meaning of life. I believe we're all creative—we all have something to express. The profound choices I've made have taken me down various paths, but the thread connecting them all is this: I'm always striving to be better. Better artist, better mother, better human. I'm a work in progress, just like my art. That's what life is—learning and growing.
Life's like charcoal... it can be messy and beautiful.
